ID Ed News

Idaho Ed News recently released school rankings for all public schools in Idaho. Heartland High School is showing in the top ten!

This recognition reflects the continued commitment of our staff, students, and community to providing a high-quality, student-centered alternative education program. Across the state, alternative and specialized high schools face unique challenges, yet Heartland High School continues to demonstrate strong performance and growth in key accountability measures.

The article by Jennifer Swindell, IdahoEdNews.org, explains the rankings are based on statewide accountability data released by the Idaho State Department of Education. These rankings are grounded in Idaho’s Consolidated State Plan, developed under the federal Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), which establishes a unified accountability system for all public schools.

Within this system, schools are evaluated using a composite score derived from multiple performance indicators, including: academic proficiency in English Language Arts and Mathematics, growth and progress measures (including English learner progress), graduation rates (for high schools), college and career readiness indicators, and academic measures carry the greatest weight in the calculation (approximately 90%), with additional indicators such as readiness and engagement contributing to the overall score. This comprehensive model ensures that rankings reflect not only achievement, but also growth, outcomes, and preparedness for postsecondary success.

Being named among the top-performing alternative high schools in Idaho is a meaningful accomplishment for Heartland High School and McCall-Donnelly School District. It highlights: the effectiveness of our alternative education model, the strong relationships and support systems for at-risk students, a continued focus on graduation, engagement, and postsecondary readiness, and an alignment with state accountability expectations and continuous improvement efforts

This recognition also reinforces the important role Heartland High School plays in ensuring that all students, regardless of pathway, have access to a rigorous, supportive, and meaningful educational experience. This achievement reflects a collective effort and commitment to meeting the diverse needs of our students.

Please join us in celebrating this accomplishment.
