MDSD September Board Brief

MDSD SEPTEMBER BOARD BRIEF

September 11, 2023

1. Enrollment Update

Our school community is thriving, with approximately 40 new students and counting.

As of this morning, we are still comfortably within our policy thresholds. However, our success in attracting new students has us nearing capacity. Our original growth projections for 30-40 students a year have been spot on.

2. Construction Updates

Donnelly Elementary is shining brighter each day! The punch list items are being checked off and DES is truly enjoying all the incredible updates.

On top of that, the foundation for our staff housing project is being poured—a testament to our commitment to providing affordable accommodations for our dedicated team members.

3. HRS Report

The mentoring program is thriving with 7 new staff members joining this year.

Our instructional coaches are making waves too, having received an impressive 23 requests since August 24th—up significantly from last year's Q1 numbers of around 20 requests.

A training opportunity awaits in Boise from October 23-26, featuring two days dedicated to coaching and another two days focused on Level 2 instructional strategies. Look out for information on how to attend.

4. Bus Routes

Although Harlow’s went from 12 routes to 11, all students are still covered. While this adjustment may add a bit of extra travel time, Harlow’s is committed to making the transition as smooth as possible. New hire trainings are happening now and by October 1, Harlow’s should be up and running with full routes! With a little luck, activities will be covered as well.

5. MDECC Open House Report

MDSD is delighted to report the success of our recent McCall Donnelly Early Childhood Center Open House, attended by 75 people, which included the Superintendent of Public Instruction, Debbie Critchfield, and her team, McCall Police Department, Perpetua Resources, West Central Mountain Economic Development Council, and Valley County Commissioner Sherry Maupin. We extend our heartfelt thanks to our dedicated school community and distinguished guests for their support.

The Open House, held on September 6, showcased our Early Childhood Center’s new facility, providing attendees with tours throughout the building.

We are now open and serving students. Contact Jordan Sheridan at 208-630-5002.

6. Perpetua Resources Gift

Perpetua Resources gave MDSD a generous gift in the amount of $40,000. They have been a valued partner in the school community that has a passion for our students and their education. This current gift will allow us to provide more resources and support to our CTE students and programs.

7. Board Meeting Location Change

We are excited to announce that our school board meetings are now being held in the brand-new boardroom at District Office, 299. S. 3rd St.
