McCall-Donnelly Dedicates New Alternative School

Building entrance Group

After 27 years in temporary facilities, the McCall-Donnelly School District welcomed staff, students and community members to the new Heartland High School.  The energy efficient facility includes space for four classrooms and a common area with a kitchen and living room spaces.  The facility was recommended by the district’s facility improvement team in 2015.  During the 2016-2017 school year, students from Heartland High School worked directly with CTA Architects and Engineers to design the new facility.  CSDI Construction broke ground on the project in June of 2017 and the school was dedicated on August 21, 2018.

During the initial planning meeting, architects asked the students a fundamental question:  “What is Heartland High School?”  Students were quick to respond.  “Heartland is safe.  Heartland is home.  Heartland is family.”  From that fundamental question the design was developed.  In the spring of 2017, the McCall-Donnelly Education Foundation awarded the school district a $15,000 grant to upgrade the kitchen and include commercial elements.  The finished kitchen includes a commercial dishwasher, handwashing station, large demonstration counter space and a second refrigerator.  (The first refrigerator was also provided to Heartland High School by the McCall-Donnelly Education Foundation.)  In the living room space, a gas fireplace has been installed thanks to a generous donation by CSDI Construction.

Over the years, Heartland has graduated nearly 300 students.  The district and community are proud to dedicate this new facility and look forward to enhancing the educational programming.   We look forward to this asset serving the communities of McCall and Donnelly for years to come!
