How to become a Substitute-Guest Teacher

  • Application Process

    We appreciate your interest in becoming a substitute teacher in our district! Substitute teaching can be a difficult but very rewarding job. It takes a lot of hard work to build a skill set that can easily handle classroom management issues as well as effectively teach in the classroom.

     

    How to Become a Substitute Teacher

    - Apply online

    - Complete STEDI Online Training (non-certified applicants)

    - Background Investigation Check, Idaho Code §33-130 (Fingerprinting)

     

    Non-Certified Teachers (without a valid Teacher's Certification)

    In order to be considered for a substitute position, you will need to complete the online application.

    Apply online with Fast Tracks. Use the "Guest Teacher-Substitute Application" link above.

    With Fast Tracks, select "Substitute" from the listed jobs then, "Apply for the Position".

    For all non-certified substitute teacher applicants, our district now requires an online substitute-training module called STEDI.  It is an 8-hour training module that must be completed before becoming a substitute for MDSD. It is a one-time training, certificate issued upon completion. STEDI TRAINING is $39.95.  A copy of the STEDI certificate must be provided to McCall-Donnelly School District.   

     

    The information for STEDI is listed below.   

    Go to STEDI.org, select Purchase Training, and then choose one of the Sub Skills Online Training

    Courses and Add to Cart. You may choose to Continue Shopping and add other training items to your cart (optional). Review your order and click Proceed to Checkout. Please complete the requested information and remember to choose McCall-Donnelly School District as your “District”. Be sure to read the Terms and Conditions and check the box to confirm you have done so. Once you finalize your transaction, you will be able to immediately begin your 8-hour training by clicking “Go To Course.” You may come and go as you please by clicking “Course Login” from the STEDI.org homepage.

     When you have completed the training and achieved the required 85% composite score on your Sub Assessments, a Sub Diploma will be available to print and bring to the district office.

    In compliance with Idaho Code §33-130, all substitutes in Idaho schools must be fingerprinted (cost is $27.00 incurred by the substitute) prior to beginning employment. Please call to schedule an appointment to be fingerprinted at the district office. For your appointment please bring the following:

                Driver’s License and Social Security Card or

                a Passport

                Exact cash or Check for $27.00

    After you have been fingerprinted and we have received a cleared report, your information will be entered into our HR, payroll, and AESOP (Absence Management). You will be contacted when you are cleared to begin work.

    After completion of 5 subbing assignments, you can be reimbursed for the $39.95 STEDI course per your request.

     

    Certified Teachers (with a valid Teacher's Certification)

    Guest Teacher Pay Schedule

    In an effort to streamline compensation processes for guest teachers and substitutes, administration recommends the following compensation schedule for the 2018-2019 school year:

    Position:

    Rate:

    Classified, 7 Hours $70

    Classified, up to 4 Hours $40

    Certified with Valid Teaching Certificate $85 (1/2 day $42.50)

    Certified without Valid Teaching Certificate $75 (1/2 day $37.50)

    Certified Long-Term

    Must be selected by building principal. Certificated guest teachers will be given preference.

    Days 6 – 20 of assignment:  1/186 of certificated base salary.  Day(s) 21+ 1/186 of individual’s placement on certificated salary schedule, if certified.

     

    All Guest Teachers / Substitutes who are are not certified hired after August 14, 2017 must complete district provided training prior to work.

  • Pay Periods

    The school district pays once a month the 25th of every month, unless the 25th lands on a holiday or weekend. Please see the attached 2018-2019 payroll schedule.
