Class Management / Expectations:
Class Rules: Take care of yourself.
Take care of others.
Take care of this place.
Each day in the classroom presents new challenges. Every situation and each child requires an individualized response from myself as the teacher or the paraprofessionals delivering the program. Each student is unique and different in behavioral and academic needs. Interventions that need to be addressed as academic or behavioral concerns will be developed by the multidisciplinary team as an IEP and/or Behavior plan is developed.
There are many team members included in the daily planning and program development for students in the special education program, which is why collaboration is essential for a productive and successful program. There are many factors that can contribute to a child’s day in a positive or negative manner. Flexibility is needed in the daily programming and support a child may need varying day to day. There are many students and staff who work together coming in and out of the special education classroom. Each day we strive to create a safe and positive learning environment for all to enjoy.
Grading Policy:
Every quarter each student with an IEP will receive a progress report that will provide a summary and indicate the progress they are making towards each goal. Data is taken daily, weekly, or monthly depending on the progress monitoring indicated on the student’s IEP or team decision. Data tells us the story of our progress. We collect data to measure progress, make decisions, monitor programs, and even to find the questions we need to ask. We collect data to measure academic growth and progress towards behavioral, social, or functional objectives. Students do not recieve a district grade for special services.
Volunteer procedures:
Please sign in and out at the front office.
Special Projects:
This year the special education program has developed an Assistive Technology Team. It is an exciting movement allowing for the schools to bring in technology for reinforcements, communication, and a current system of visual supports. There are endless amounts of ways to incorporate technology into the daily lives of our students as tools and supports. The team meets regularly at least twice a month to develop plans in assisting special education staff in collecting data, daily programming and prompting systems, and behavior supports.
Upcoming Events:
Check your child's classroom teachers web page for any upcoming events.
B.B.King: The beautiful thing about learning is that no one can take it away from you.
